About
Welcome to a WebSight on the Heart of Christian Philosophy, according to a couple of philosophers, Mary Rosera Joyce and Robert E. Joyce, Ph.D.
We will pun and have fun. But we are also quite serious about the Meaning of Life –all Life, created and Uncreated.
Mary and Bob
On a beautiful September day in 1958, Mary and Bob met in the faculty lounge on the 9th floor at De Paul University, in downtown Chicago. New teachers in the philosophy department, they were alone in the room at the time, filling out their employment forms.
Eventually, Mary looked up and saw Bob, who was glancing at her, and she asked him a question about the form.
When finished with their task, they walked out of the room together, and Mary asked Bob another question. “What do you think of metaphysics?” “Philosophy par excellence,” Bob replied with a twinkle in his eye.
You might say it was…
love at first insight.
A Tribute to the Greatest Gentleman, Scholar and Saint of America
Dear Mary, family members and friends of our departed and beloved friend, Robert E. Joyce:
Though, unfortunately, I am not able to be physically present at Robert’s funeral, I am with you all in spirit and heart sharing and feeling the deep sadness and sorrow at the earthly and untimely loss of this wonderful person whose life was cut short by a cruel and ungrateful disease. It is more than just, at this moment, to extol the great virtues that Robert possessed. Robert deserves this praise for being the great, good, generous and humanly warm person that he is and was.
If there is anyone who merits the Congressional Medal of Honor in our country, it is our great warrior Robert. Throughout his whole life, he dedicated his energies, mind, heart and years to saving the lives of countless innocent unborn Americans from the hands of insane human butchers. I am sure that in heaven, where he is now, legions of these Americans will swarm to embrace and meet him with enthusiasm, heart-felt gratitude and profound love for the defense practiced towards them while on earth.
Robert shared his precious knowledge with hundreds of his students with his revolutionary methods of teaching and was responsible for producing some illustrious men of science in our society. They must be very grateful for having been led by such a prominent professor of philosophy, psychology and theology.
Robert’s great teachings and discoveries on the new and dynamic ways to relate and love as man and woman, husband and wife, simply friends, etc will cause a Copernican revolution in human relationships that will usher in an era of harmonious union, respect, sincere sharing and goodness between the two sexes where fears, discriminations and deep resentments, confusions and separations will be overcome. His own example and life with Mary for over 50 years is a shining and bright hope of a life full of joy and happiness that is possible for all couples.
Robert’s great, intuitive, profoundly penetrating mind was sharper than the finest razor and cut deep into truths like a human microscope. He was able to see things that the philosophical doctors of the past were unable to perceive and made a philosophical and theological breakthrough that will revolutionize our thinking about God, creation, sin and salvation for ages to come. He has cast a floodlight on things that have lain in the dark during the past centuries.
I read all of Robert Joyce’s books and his teaching is of such a lofty and wise nature that it is really breathtaking to come across. Robert has an eagle’s eye view of things that is without parallel or comparison. Robert has his place amongst the giants of our Faith like St. Augustine, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Jacques Maritain, Ann Terruwe, Conrad Baars and Pope Saint John Paul II. I have no doubts in my heart that he too, will someday also be declared our country’s doctor of the Church for his impeccable teachings of pristine purity.
I appreciate his intelligence so much that I believe that if he had studied and applied his mind to medicine instead of philosophy, he would have come up with the cure of a number of diseases, including cancer. He would have put an end to this pathetic, primitive and crude state of stagnant medicinal science that is hopeless to come up with solutions for modern day fatal maladies.
Robert is no doubt a saint and I believe he went straight to heaven to a special place of glory reserved for those who gave their complete heart, life and being to God. He is the pride, joy and honor of Minnesota and Illinois. Robert possessed an impressive humility, love and goodness in himself as well as a generosity, openness and respect for others. He was a staunch and faithful Catholic with a solid and deep devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist. For all the visits that Robert made to Jesus in the Tabernacle, Jesus now returns the favor by bringing Robert to the marvels of his heavenly mansions and in the very center of God’s heart.
Robert had projects and ambitions to produce more works for our spiritual benefit, but God decided otherwise and was satisfied with the immense amount that he had already given to us all. Like a soccer coach who feels that his star player scored enough goals and takes him out for a rest amidst the applauses of the cheering audience, Robert too, winged his way to the joys and glories of everlasting life after accomplishing so much. But who will take his place in this game of life? We have no one, for the likes of Robert are rare gifts of God to humanity and these are not commonplace or easy to come by.
In the years that I personally knew Robert, he was constantly and faithfully present for me. He never missed a phone call that I made to him nor left a question or doubt unanswered that I would ask to him. He was completely dedicated for all those who needed him and with a beautiful, humble and pleasant smile and conversation. During some of my personal moments of trial or discouragement, he always had the rights words to pick me up and give me strength to go on with renewed enthusiasm. He will be cherished in all of our hearts. Robert, thank you for all you have done for us and may God bless you with the abundant life and joy that you yourself spread and shared with all of us on earth. We ourselves now promise to continue the legacy you left us along with the fine examples of your life. Thank you God, for giving our country such a strong beacon of heavenly light for our near-sighted world whose eyes are failing and groping for the truth. Amen.
